Her plays have been inspired by an eclectic mix of works, such as Shakespeare, South Park, Greek myths, and 1970s horror films. She notably wants to create more complex, dimensional roles for women on stage in leading roles. Many of Castro Smith's plays are comedic, relationship-focused, and often politically relevant. This led her to embrace playwriting as a career, which led to writing and producing for television. After graduating, Castro Smith worked primarily as an actor until she was selected for the Van Lier Fellowship Program in 2012-2013 at the New Dramatists in New York. From this, Paula Vogel, head of the playwrighting program at the time, began to act as a mentor to her. Although she was studying Acting, she wrote a play Estrella Cruz that was produced at the Yale Cabaret, the student-run theatre. Education Īfter receiving her BA from Brown, Castro Smith attended the Yale School of Drama for her Master's in Fine Arts (MFA). She lives in LA and is married to actor Joby Earle, whom she met at Yale. Previous to graduate school, she was a city schoolteacher. She attended Brown University as an undergraduate student and later the Yale School of Drama, where she earned her MFA in acting. They just did it naturally.Castro Smith is from Miami, Florida, where she was raised in a Cuban American family. And they did this without seeing what they were doing or being told how to do it. It was crazy that they put the cemetery as far away from the colony as they could and also as far away from their trash pile. It shows that they respect their dead just as humans do.
I also thought it was interesting how the ants had a cemetery for their dead.
When really they are just doing these things by instinct of what their genetic genes tell them to do. It is weird that the ants do these jobs without being told to do them and that everything all seems to have been organized by the governing ant such as the Queen, who made the plans for the jobs or that, controlled the colony. Because of a joined team effort they all get food. Such as the example of the ants all doing their little jobs that may seem worthless but without the ants doing these jobs the colony won’t survive. It is so true how every part of a complex system has its own way of working and it doesn’t need any one or thing to tell it how to do its job. “The Myth of the Ant Queen” by Steven Johnson was an interesting essay on complex systems.
