Update can not find drivers for this on-board network chip, but does work fine with downloaded unsigned driver. google search provided a ton of wrong information. Standards, but does run fine to recycle and get a couple years extra life out of old hardware. The hardware video chip-set is very old by today's IF sis would release all the source code some body could rewrite it. These drivers could easily be fixed due to the poorly written xp install script. system configuration utility could most likely prevent from trying to load the driver functions perfect aside from start-up error. Tried updating same sis VGA chip-set in xp but have an error when windows starts related to removed sis software near clock. I first had to install a windows basic generic VGA driver, then update because there was no device manager video driver. Write the drivers in the proper registry and folders from device manager update. Generally You can not 'run install' xp drivers in windows 7 because old drivers install are written wrong to write files to the wrong places windows 7 can not find them. Very often the old installersįor older operating systems will not work in newer windows 7. From 'device manager' update and point the 'install from' location to the 'inf' files etc.
Note I did not run the install for the driver. The very old driver was for xp, but ran fine in I successfully clean installed windows 7 on a desktop with the sis chip-set. many similar chip numbers are included in sis driver. sis site uses a series driver for the sis chip-set.
